AI Scribe
AI Scribe was developed in partnership with our customers after we kept hearing the same feedback: during routine visits, providers wanted more face-to-face interaction with patients and less time locked into the screen typing shorthand notes.
We found that many of the notes doctors, nurses, and other providers were typing were standard SOAP notes. The provider still needed to review the note and sign off on it, but a lot of the first draft was repetitive documentation work. That was the part we wanted AI to help with.
AI Scribe uses the speech stream and dictation infrastructure already built into EMRDesk. Before using AI Scribe during a visit, the provider confirms that the patient consents to having the encounter transcribed for documentation support. The provider starts the scribe, the visit is transcribed, and the transcript is processed through a healthcare-focused AI workflow to create a SOAP note in Notes Studio.
What It Picks Up
The useful part is that the visit can stay natural.
A provider can put the phone down on the table with AI Scribe running and continue talking to the patient. Routine conversation does not need to become chart data just because it was spoken. When clinically relevant information comes up, AI Scribe can pull that into the note.
For example, if a blood pressure like 120/60 is mentioned during the visit, that can be captured in the SOAP note. If a medication change, diagnosis, procedure, or follow-up plan is discussed, that can be included in the draft as well.
Coding Support
AI Scribe also recommends billing codes and diagnosis codes based on the conversation and the generated note.
That includes CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10, and E/M coding context. The recommendations give the provider or billing team a better starting point when reviewing the encounter.
The provider still reviews the note. The billing team still checks the codes. The value is that the first pass is already connected to what happened during the visit.
A Routine Visit
A nurse can use AI Scribe during a follow-up visit by placing her phone on the table and keeping Notes Studio open on the laptop.
She talks with the patient, reviews symptoms, checks vitals, discusses medications, and gives instructions. After the visit, AI Scribe has created a SOAP draft from the encounter. The relevant clinical details are already organized, and the code suggestions are available for review.
Instead of rebuilding the entire note from memory after the patient leaves, she is reviewing a draft created from the visit.
Where It Is Going
Right now, the workflow is simple: put the phone down with AI Scribe running and keep Notes Studio open on the laptop.
The future direction is to make AI Scribe run more naturally in the background, so documentation support feels like part of the visit rather than a separate task.
Conclusion
AI Scribe was built because routine visits should not require providers to spend the whole encounter typing.
It creates SOAP note drafts from the visit, captures relevant clinical details, recommends coding context, and keeps the provider in control of review. The result is more face-to-face time with patients and less repetitive documentation work after the visit.
